合コンにいる男 – JLPT N3

　ひさしぶり。元気？私は元気だよ。実は３か月前に彼氏と別れちゃったんだ。彼には別れたくないって言われたけど、子どもっぽいところが嫌になったから、しょうがないよね。それで、最近はよく合コンに行っているよ。私は人見知りだから、最初はあまり話せずに終わることが多かったけど、最近は慣れてきたみたい。合コンに慣れるのってちょっと嫌だよね。

　合コンで私たち女の子だけのルールを決めたんだよ。もしイケメンがいて、今日の合コンはよさそうだと思ったら、最初の飲み物はカシスオレンジを頼む。反対にだめそうだと思ったら、生ビールを頼む。おもしろいでしょう？

　でもね、今までカシスオレンジを頼んだことはめったにないの。だいたい３種類の男の人がいるんだよね。一つ目のタイプは自分の話ばかりする人。誰も聞いていないのに車を持っているとか、有名な会社で働いているとか、親が金持ちだとか色々自慢してくる。

二つ目のタイプはやる気のない人。必ず最初に「合コンなんか来たくなかったけど、友達にさそわれて、仕方がないから来た」って言うの。来たくないなら来なければいいのに。そういう人は何か質問しても「別に」とか「特にない」とかしか言わないの。来たくなかったと言ったくせに、最後になんども連絡先を聞いてくるんだよね。

三つ目のタイプはオタク。みんなが楽しく話している最中に一人で小さい声で何かを話していて、あまりコミュニケーションができないの。でも、趣味の話になると、声が大きくなって、一人でずっと話している。変だよね。

　どうして普通の男性がいないのかなあ。でも、もしかすると運命の相手に出会えるかもしれないから、頑張ってみるよ。

　みおちゃんに久しぶりに会いたいよ。今度ご飯でも食べに行こうね。また連絡するね。

Dear Mio,

It’s been forever! How are you? I’m fine. Actually, three months ago, I broke up with my boyfriend. He didn’t want to break up, but he was so childish, I couldn’t deal with it. So, I recently have gone to single’s drinking outings. At first, I was so shy, I often left barely saying a word, but I seem to have gotten used to them. I do not want to “get used” to these events, you know?

The girls I go with came up with the “go-kon rules.”. If there are handsome guys and we think that the go-kon will go well, we order Cassis Orange as our first drink. On the other hand, if we think things are not looking good, we order draft beer. Funny, huh?

I rarely order Cassis Orange. There are roughly three kinds of men at these things. The first type is the guy who only talk about himself. Even though no one asks, they boast about their car, working at a famous company, their rich parents, and so on.

The second type is the “no-ambition guy.” He always starts with, “I didn’t want to come this sort of thing, my friends made me.” They don’t need to come if they don’t want to, yet there they are. Even if I ask them something, they reply, “Nothing” or “Whatever”. But even though they say they didn’t want to come, they always ask for my number.

The third type are otaku. While everyone is talking happily, they talk barely communicate in a tiny little voice. But when they talk about their hobbies, they become loud and keep muttering to themselves. So strange, you know?

I wonder why there are no normal men. Anyway, by some chance I might meet my dream guy, so I won’t give up.

Yes/No英会話教室 – JLPT N3

毎週火曜日、私は仕事の後に英会話教室に行っています。私が英会話教室に行く理由は二つあります。一つ目は１年に一度、ハワイやグアムなど、海外旅行に行くからです。二つ目は私の会社ではTOEICの成績がいいと、給料が上がるからです。私の英語の先生は大学を卒業したばかりの男性です。日本が大好きで、日本で生活したいと思って日本に来たそうです。

でも、先生は日本語が少しだけしかわからないので、大変です。クラスは５人のグループレッスンです。クラスメートは大学生の女の子や会社員の男性などがいます。私はみんなの前で英語を話すのが恥ずかしいです。質問をされてもほとんどYesかNoしか言えません。それで、先生に何度注意されたことか。でも、いくら英語で話そうとしても、全然英語が口から出てこないのです。そんな私に比べてクラスメイトはみんな上手で、週末のできごとなど色々なことを英語でペラペラ話していて、すごいなあと思います。

私が一番困るのは先生が冗談を言った時です。みんなが笑っているのに、私だけ理解できません。それで私だけ笑っていないことがよくあります。私も早く英語で冗談がわかるようになりたいです。だけど、英語が少しも上達しないから、最近はちょっと辞めたいと思っています。英会話教室に行ったからといって、必ずしも英語が上手になるとは限らないということが分かりました。

English

I go to an English conversation school after work every Tuesday. There are two reasons why I go to the English conversation school: The first is that I go overseas to places like Hawaii or Guam once a year. The second reason is that if the TOEIC score is good, I get a raise. My English teacher is a man who just graduated from college. He loves Japan and he came to start a life here.

But he only speaks a little Japanese, so it’s hard for me to keep up. Class is a group lesson of 5 people. My classmates are girls from university and guys who work in offices. I am so embarrassed to speak English in front of everyone. When I am asked a question, I usually just say “Yes” or “No.” I wonder how many times I have been scolded for that by my teacher. However, no matter how hard I try, English won’t come out of my mouth at all. I admire all my classmates who are so much better than me, and speak fluently about how they spent their weekend and such.

The worst is when the teacher makes jokes. While everyone is laughing, I have no idea what’s going on. So usually it’s just me not laughing. I really want to understand jokes in English. But, my English does isn’t improving, so I have been thinking of quitting. Even if you take English classes, it doesn’t mean that your English will improve.

お気に入りの美容院 – JLPT N3

東京には美容院が星の数ほどあります。美容院を探すとき、ほとんどの人がホットペッパービューティーっていうサイトを使って、探していると思います。私は今のお気に入りの美容院を見つけるまでとても時間がかかりました。そのサイトでよさそうな美容院を探しては予約し、実際に行ってみました。１０軒近い美容院に行ってみて、ようやく上手に切ってくれる美容師さんを見つけたので、最近はずっとそこに行っています。美容院に行くのは２か月に一度ぐらいです。パーマをかけたり、カラーをしたり、行くたびに３、４時間ぐらいかかります。疲れているときはアロママッサージ付きのトリートメントをお願いすることもあります。担当の美容師さんは男の人だけど、おしゃれで、話も上手。私がどういう髪型にしてほしいかうまく説明できなくても、いつも私に似合う髪型にしてくれます。

パーマをかけるときは特に時間がかかります。髪の毛にパーマ液とか、カーラーとか色々なものをつけたまま待たなければならないので、ちょっと頭が重くて疲れます。待っている間は雑誌を読んでいます。OL向けの雑誌がたくさんあるので、退屈はしません。

私は美容院とかネイルサロンとかに行っている時間がすごく好きです。友達にはそんなに自分にお金かけられるのは独身で実家に住んでいる今のうちだけだと言われます。確かに、私はずっと実家に住んでいるけど、お給料を全部使っているわけではありません。一応、親にも生活費を渡しているし、貯金もしています。

結婚したらどうなるんだろう？結婚しても共働きで私も仕事を続ければ、今の生活とあまり変わらないんじゃないかな。

My Favorite Beauty Salon – JLPT-N3

Tokyo has as many beauty salons as stars in the sky. When searching for a salon, most people use a site called Hot Pepper Beauty. It took me a long time to find my favorite. I’d search for one that looked good on Hot Pepper, make an appointment, and then actually go. After nearly 10 salons, I finally found a hairdresser who cuts my hair really well, so that’s where I go now. I go once every two months. I get a perm or color, so it takes 3 or 4 hours. When I’m tired, I sometimes get a hair treatment with aroma massage. The hairdresser in charge is a guy, but he is fashionable and a great conversationalist. Even if I can’t explain exactly what I want to have him do, he always gives me a hairstyle I like.

It takes a while to get a perm. Because I have to wait with perm liquid, color, and curlers on my hair, my head gets heavy and it wears me out. I usually read magazines while I wait. There are a lot of magazines for OLs, so I don’t get bored.

I really enjoy the time I spend at beauty salons and nail salons. My friends tell me it’s only while I am single and living at home that that I can spend so much money on myself. Sure, I have always lived at home, but it’s not like I use all my salary. At any rate, I pay my parents for my living expenses and also put some in savings.

What will happen after marriage? Even if I do get married, we will be a working couple, so it won’t be much different than now.

ネイルサロン、今日は星ふたつ – JLPT N3

１ヶ月に１度、楽しみなことがあります。それはネイルサロンに行くことです。私が行っているネイルサロンは青山にあります。値段が高いのに、なぜわざわざ青山まで行くかというと、雰囲気がとてもいいからです。ネイリストはほとんど同年代の女性です。そのため、安心してお任せすることができます。昨日、１ヶ月ぶりにそのネイルサロンへ行きました。昨日は金曜日だったから結構混んでいました。少し待たされました。でも、私は待っている間に雑誌を読んだり、ネイルのデザインを見たりするのが好きですから長い時間待っても、ちっとも飽きません。今回は女の子らしいデザインにしました。

今日担当だったスタッフは経験があまりなさそうでした。一生懸命やってくれたのはよかったのですが、あまり上手じゃありませんでした。思ったとおりのデザインにならなかったので、残念でした。最後に笑顔で「いかがですか？」と聞かれました。私はその時「大丈夫です。ありがとう」と答えてしまいました。でもやっぱり見れば見るほど、あのかわいいデザインとは違うように見えます。それで、帰ってから口コミを書くことにしました。「予約したのに、けっこう待たされたし、スタッフによって技術のレベルがちがうのが残念」と書きました。イライラしていましたが、ちょっとスッキリしました。次回は上手なスタッフにやってもらえますように。

Today’s Nail Salon Visit: Two Stars

Once a month, I like to treat myself. I go to the nail salon. My nail salon is in Aoyama. It’s pricey, but the reason I go to ritzy Aoyama is because I love the atmosphere. Almost all nail technicians are woman my age. So I feel like I can relax and put my trust in their hands. Yesterday, I went to the nail salon for the first time in a month. Since it was Friday, it was crowded. They made me wait a while. Anyway, I like flipping through the magazines and picking out designs I like, so I don’t get bored, even while waiting a while. This time I chose a pretty girlish design.

The person assigned to me didn’t seem to have much experience. She did her best, but she wasn’t very good. I was disappointed, as it didn’t look like the design I expected. She smiled and asked, “How do you like it?” Of course, I blurted, “It’s nice! Thank you!” But the more I look at my nails, the less cute the look. So, when I got home, I decided to leave a comment on a review site. “I made a reservation, but I was kept waiting quite a while. And unfortunately, the skill level differs greatly, depending on who does your nails.” I was irritated, but I felt relieved after leaving the review. I hope my nails get done by someone better next time.

ネイルサロンでしてくれること – JLPT N3

今日は仕事の後、青山に来ました。１か月ぶりのネイルサロンです。前回はあまり満足できなかったけど、今回は上手なスタッフを指名したので、きっと満足できるにちがいないと期待しています。最近のネイルサロンはジェルネイルが一般的です。ジェルネイルはツヤツヤしているし、色もかわいいし、私は大好きです。

私が行っているサロンではまず最初に簡単なハンドマッサージをしてくれます。そのあと、爪の長さを整えます。それから、前回のジェルネイルをきれいにはがします。はがすとき、爪を削る感じがするので、ちょっと苦手です。

次にネイルを塗っていきます。私はキラキラしたストーンやラメは一本か二本の爪だけにして、あとはシンプルにすることにしています。一応、会社に勤めているし、あまりに派手なデザインにすると、周りの目が気になるから・・・。

だいたいデザインは自分でネットで検索しておいて、それを見せます。ネイルのデザインは先に決めておいたほうがいいと思います。季節に合わせてデザインを変えることが多いです。春なら桜のイメージ、夏は海っぽい感じとか。お店に見本も置いてあって、時々、やっぱり見本のデザインにしてくださいと注文を変更することもあります。ネイルをデザインしているのを見るのは楽しいです。小さいストーンを載せたり、リボンや花のイラストを描いたり、どうしてあんなに細かい作業が上手にできるのだろう？

デザインができたら、専用の機械で光を当てて、マニキュアを固めます。私はその間、スタッフとおしゃべりしたり、流れているテレビを見たりしています。完成したら最後に保湿オイルを塗って、終了です。全部で１時間ぐらいかかるけど、知らないうちに時間が経っています。私が行っているお店では最後にネイルの写真を撮ってインスタに載せてくれます。自分のネイルの写真に「いいね」がつくと、なんだか嬉しいです。

ちなみにこのサロンではネイルだけでなく、まつげのエクステもできます。ネイルのついでにエクステをする人もけっこういるようです。

今回はベテランのスタッフがやってくれたので、注文したとおりにできあがりました。大満足です。

At the Nail Salon – JLPT N3

I came to Aoyama after work today. It’s my first visit to the nail salon in a month. I wasn’t very happy with my last visit, but I’ve made an appointment with someone good this time, so I think I will be satisfied. Recently, gel nails are common in salons. I love the shine of gel nails and the cute colors.

The nail salon I go to starts with a simple hand massage. Then they trim the nails. After that, they completely remove the old gel. As they remove the gel, I really don’t like the scraping feeling.

Next, they apply the nail polish. I have only one or two nails done with sparkling stones and glitter; the rest is simple. I work at a company, and if I make it too flashy, I’m worried about distracting people.

I usually search the net myself for the design and show it to the salon. I think it’s best to decide on the nail design ahead of time. I often change the design according to the season. For example, I’ll do an image of cherry blossoms in the spring and go with an ocean-y feel in the summer. There are also samples in the shop, and sometimes I’ll change my order to one of the sample design. It’s fun to see the nail designs. How are they so good using such small stones, or drawing tiny ribbons and flowers?

Once the design is complete, they shine a special light on the nails to harden the polish. In the meantime, I chat with the staff and watch TV. After that completes, they apply moisturizing oil to finish. It takes about an hour in total, but the time flies by. At the salon I go to, they take a picture of the nails and put them on Instagram. I like when someone “likes” my nail photo.

Also, this salon offers eyelash extensions as well as nails. It seems that there are quite a few people who get extensions along with getting their nails done.

This time, veteran staff helped me, so my nails came out like I has hoped. I am very satisfied!
