ぼくは小学生のとき、水泳を始めました。父と一緒に毎週プールへ泳ぎに行きました。はじめは父に水泳を習いました。プールで水泳クラブの小学生たちが練習をしていました。それを見て、ぼくもクラブに入りたいと思いました。父は「もうちょっと上手になったら、入ってもいい」と言いました。だからぼくはたくさん練習をしました。小学２年生の夏、水泳クラブに入りました。ぼくが水泳クラブで練習しているとき、父は一人で泳ぎました。ときどき、クラブのあとで、父と一緒にプールで遊びました。
中学生になって、ぼくも水泳がかなり上手になりました。それで、父と二人でよく競争をしました。中学3年生のとき、市の大会で優勝して、メダルをもらいました。うれしかったですから、父と一緒に写真をとりました。そのメダルと、父と撮った写真は今もぼくの部屋にあります。

Swimming
When I was in elementary school, I started swimming. Every week, I went with my dad to swim at a pool. I first learned to swim from my dad. At the pool, elementary school kids in the swimming club were practicing. When I saw that, I thought that I wanted to join. My dad said, “When you get a bit better, you can join.” So I practiced a lot. In the summer of Second Grade, i joined the swimming club. While I was swimming with the club, my dad was swimming by himself. Sometimes, after club, my dad and I would play in the pool.
By middle school, I could swim pretty well. So now, my dad and I often raced each other. In 9th grade, I came in first in a city tournament and won a medal. I was so happy, I took a picture with my dad. The picture of my dad and I, and the medal are still in my room.
昼ごはん – JLPT N5
小学校と中学校の昼ご飯は給食でした。高校には給食がありませんから、自分で昼ご飯を用意しなければなりません。母はぼくに「５００円あげるから、学校でご飯を買って。お母さん、朝早く起きることができない。」と言いました。母も毎日働いていますから、忙しいです。だから、ぼくは母に「弁当を作って」と言うことができませんでした。自分で好きな弁当を買うことができますから、大丈夫です
ぼくはだいたい学校のお弁当コーナーで４００円のかつ丼や天丼、ハンバーグ弁当などを買います。１００円で部活のあと、パンやお菓子を買って、食べます。学校の中にある店はコンビニより安いです。でも、もっとジュースやお菓子を買いたいですから、５００円は少ないです。
部活で毎日水泳をしますから、ぼくはすぐおなかがすきます。クラスの女子がときどきぼくにパンをくれます。アルバイトをしている店でもらったパンです。ありがとう！！
親友のユウジはときどき彼女が作った弁当を食べています。ぼくも彼女がほしいなあ。

Lunch
During elementary and middle school there was a school lunch provided for us. But in high school, there is no school lunch, so we have to prepare our own. My mother said, “Here’s 500 yen, buy your lunch at school. I can’t get up early enough.” Since she works everyday, she’s busy. I can’t just ask her to “fix me bento.” Anyway, I can just buy whichever bento I like, so it’s fine.
I usually buy something like katsudon, tendon, or hamburger from the bento corner at school for about 400 yen. When school club is over, for 100 yen, I buy a roll or candy to eat. The store in my school is cheaper than a convenience store. But 500 yen isn’t enough, since I always want to buy more candy or juice.
I go swimming every day after school club, so I get really hungry. A girl at school sometimes gives me baked good. It’s food given to her from her part-time job. Thanks!

ぼくは今高校2年生です。4月から3年生になります。中学生のとき、勉強が嫌いでしたから、塾に行きませんでした。それで、家の近くの公立高校に入学しました。
２才下の妹は勉強が好きです。たくさん勉強しましたから有名な東京の高校に合格できました。でも、同じ高校に行く友達が全然いませんから、妹は心配しています。
ぼくの高校はうちの近くにありますから、同じ中学から来た人がたくさんいます。それで、高校に入学するとき、ぼくは全然心配しませんでした。
ぼくは水泳部に入りました。毎日練習がありますから、少し大変です。一年生の時は、部活のあとでミスドやマックへよく行きました。そこでゲームをしたり、おしゃべりをしたりしました。
今は部活のあとで、塾に行っています。大学受験がありますから、たくさん勉強しなければなりません。毎日、学校に行って、塾に行って、家に帰って…この繰り返しです。友達と遊びたいです。でも、三年生になりますから、今よりもっと勉強しなければなりません。

High School Life
I am a high school sophomore now. In April, I will be a Junior. When I was in junior high, I didn’t go to juku because I hate to study. As a result, I went to a public high school near where I live.
My sister, who is 2 years younger, likes to study. Because she does, she got into a famous Tokyo high school. But she’s nervous because none of her friends will be there. Since my high school is near my house, there are many kids I know. So, I wasn’t worried at all about that.
I joined the swimming club. We practice every day, so it’s a little hard. When I was a freshman, I often went to Mr. Donut or McD’s after club activities. I used to play games and chat there.
Now, I go to a juku after club. I am studying a lot because I have university entrance exams coming up. Every day, I go to school, go to juku, go home: rinse and repeat. I want to have fun with my friends. But when I become a junior, I will have to study even harder.
ずっと勉強がきらいでしたから、塾に行きませんでした。でも、大学受験の勉強は難しいですから、２年生の夏に塾に入りました。今まであまり勉強をしませんでしたから、はじめは「復習コース」から始まりました。英語や数学の基本の勉強をしました。毎週テストがあって、大変でした。基本をもう一度勉強したら、英語の勉強がおもしろくなりました。それで、今は少し勉強が好きになりました。でも、数学はいくらがんばっても、成績がよくなりません。それで大学受験の試験科目は英語、日本史、国語の３つを選びました。
大学を選ぶとき、まず学部を選ばなければなりません。学校の先生も、塾の先生もぼくたちに「大学を卒業したら、何になりたいですか」と質問しました。親友のユウジは「You Tuber」と答えました。ぼくは小さいときプロの水泳選手になりたかったですが、今はよく分かりません。

University Entrance Exams
I never liked to study, so I didn’t go to after-school classes. However, I was having trouble preparing for my university entrance exams, so I enrolled in a cram school in the summer of my sophomore year. Since I was so far behind, I started with “review courses.” This included English and math basics. There was a test every week and class was difficult. After studying the basics again, I started enjoying English again. So now I like to study a little. But no matter how hard I study math, my grades didn’t improve. So I chose three subjects for the university exams: English, Japanese history, and Japanese.
When we pick a university, we first select a department. All the teachers in high school and cram school asked us, “What do you want to be when you graduate from university?” My best friend Yuji answered “A Youtuber.” I wanted to be a professional swimmer when I was small, but now I have no idea what I want to be.
I have to think more about my future.
はじめての塾 – JLPT N5
高校2年生の春から、塾に通っています。家から塾までバスで10分くらいです。歩くと、30分くらいかかります。いつも部活が終わってから、バスで塾へ行きます。毎日18時まで水泳の練習がありますから、とても疲れます。はじめて塾へ行ったとき、ぼくは遅刻しました。バス停から走って行きました。はじめてでしたから、教室の場所が分かりませんでした。それで、受付の人に質問しました。ぼくは「山田先生の数学の授業はどの教室ですか？」と聞きました。受付の人が「4階の403教室です。あちらにエレベーターがありますよ。」と教えてくれました。そして、「もう授業がはじまりましたから、いそいでください」と言いました。ぼくは「ありがとうございます。」と言って、いそいでエレベーターに乗りました。すぐに4階のボタンを押しました。そのとき、もう一人エレベーターに乗りました。その人を見たら、同じ学校の水泳部の佐藤さんでした。エレベーターが4階に着きました。佐藤さんといっしょに静かに教室に入りました。佐藤さんは、ほかの友達の近くの席に座りました。ぼくは一人で一番うしろの席に座りました。

First Day at Cram School – JLPT N5
I have been going to a cram school since the second year of high school. From my house to the school, it takes about 10 minutes by bus. It takes about 30 minutes, if I walk. When after-school club is over, I always go to cram school by bus. I’m tired because every day, I practice swimming until 18:00. My first time going to cram school, I was late. I ran from the bus stop.
Because it was my first time, I didn’t know where my classroom was. So I asked the receptionist.
“Which room is Mr. Yamada’s mathematics class in,” I asked.
“Room 403 on the 4th floor. There is an elevator over there,” she told me.
“Class has already begun, so please hurry,” she said.
I said “Thank you,” and I quickly got in the elevator. I immediately pressed the 4th-floor button.
Just then, someone got on the elevator. It was Sato, from my Swim Club at school. The elevator arrived at the 4th floor. I entered the classroom with Sato quietly. Sato sat in near another friend. I sat in alone the back row.
